For the first time ever, we’re introducing Sewing Skills and Pattern Drafting as a part time course running over 6 months!

This course is perfect for students who are serious about taking their sewing skills to the next level and creating custom-fit garments with confidence.

We’re excited to introduce Jen Carbutt, a multi-skilled costume designer and highly trained patternmaker, who is joining forces with our own Robyn Wainwright to teach this specialized course. Jen’s wealth of experience in the world of bespoke garment creation and pattern drafting makes her the perfect fit to guide you through this exciting journey.

Course Overview: An 6-Month Comprehensive Training Programme

Our 6-month programme is structured to provide you with a thorough understanding of both garment construction and pattern drafting. Here’s what you can expect:

Months 1-3: Basic sewing techniques and Garment Construction
The first three months will focus on sewing, where you’ll learn to construct a variety of garments and projects with competence and confidence. This phase will ensure you are comfortable with the technical aspects of sewing and gain practical skills.

Months 4-6: Pattern Drafting and Sewing
In the next three months, we dive deep into Pattern Drafting. You’ll learn how to create custom patterns, fit garments to specific measurements, and transform your ideas into reality.

Whether you dream of making your own wardrobe or venturing into the world of bespoke garment creation, these final months will equip you with the tools you need.

By the end of the course, you will be ready to confidently take on projects, either for personal use or as part of your growing sewing business.

Business workshops will also be available later in the year for those who want to turn their sewing passion into a professional venture.

You can choose to commit to the full 8-month course for a comprehensive learning experience or register for specific sections of the programme that align with your interests and goals.

COURSES - SEWING AND PATTERN DRAFTING

BEGINNER SEWING COURSES

learn everything you need to know to set you on your new journey as a sewer. We will teach you solid sewing skills and techniques over 21 classes.

In the first 7 classes you will discover and begin to master THE BASICS OF SEWING

You will make 2-3 projects chosen to develop and practice your sewing skills and teach simple construction techniques:
In Part 2 - MAKE YOUR OWN CLOTHING – BEGINNERS – 7 Classes
You will learn everything you need to know to start creating your own wardrobe.
• How to take measurements and work with a commercial pattern
• How to cut and sew with woven and single jersey fabric
• Make your own garments chosen to teach you basic construction techniques
• We will go fabric shopping so you can learn how to choose the correct fabric for your pattern
In Part 3 - ADVANCED BEGINNER - 7 classes we will work on two complicated garments designed to teach you more advanced construction techniques.

PATTERN DRAFTING OPTIONS

Levels 1 & 2 Pattern Drafting.

This course is designed for those who have completed both beginner and intermediate sewing classes and are ready to advance their skills. This comprehensive 14-lesson course will guide you through the foundational principles of pattern making, enabling you to draft and create your own basic garment patterns.

Course Overview:

Introduction to Pattern Making Principles
Drafting the Basic Bodice
Drafting the Basic Skirt
Creating a Dress Pattern
Basic Sleeve Drafting
Drafting Basic Pants
Creating garments from your pattern blocks

By the end of this course, you will have gained hands-on experience in drafting essential garment patterns and creating custom-fitted clothing.
